In this workshop we will focus on the prinicipals of Contact Improvisation as well as finding the freedom and fun in this dance form.
The basic technique of CI provides the foundation for the dancers to engage in a physical dialogue with each other, while the poetry of the dance comes from creativity, personal expression and deep exploration of the possibities of movement and connection.
Renate and Tom will facilitate and teach how to enjoy rolling, falling, leaning, how to let go to land softly and how to enjoy safe lifting and being lifted by a partner.
Going beyond technique we will attune to listening and sensing skills, making the communication come from a deep connection between two or more moving bodies.
Adding creativity and choice will transform known pathways and patterns of movement into poetry.
Out of practising skills, deep listening and free flow of playing together fresh new dances will evolve, that go far beyond physical movement.
Welcome any lovers of movement and Contact Improvisation!
In this workshop we will learn to work together and to respond to each other’s invitations for lifts as a base (the „under-dancer“) and flyer (the „over-dancer“).
The more you are able to connect with the ground and sense your own weight, the better you will be able to lift your partner.
The other side of this art is to become light and allow your partner to lift you out of the “flow of the dance”, rather than using a lot of muscle- force.
Renate and Tom will facilitate and teach you how to safely and enjoyably lift and be lifted by your partner – from just a little “hop” off the ground to medium and even higher lifts.
Investigating into the qualities of both the “under-dancer”, as well as the “over-dancer”, will help you become a skilled contact dancer
This workshop will expand your movement vocabulary and increase your playfulness on the dance floor.

I am a dancer, dance-teacher and choreographer in the field of New-Dance & Contact Improvisation.
I studied and taught at SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam 1980 – 88.
After that I moved to Freiburg, first teaching in the professional program of „bewegungsart-freiburg“ and than starting my own dance-school „newdance-freiburg“.
I love to work with the body and challenge its movement-possibilities. Embodying oneself more fully goes far beyond a physical training.
Starting from the body, as it is my interest, teaching includes: Developmental Movement, a Teachers Training in Body-Alignment (Somatics / Anatomy), New-Dance-Technique, Dance in Nature, Contact Improvisation, Performance-Groups, Movement Ritual.
I am a performance artist, dancer and a dance teacher in the field of Dance & Contact Improvisation.
After finishing my studies in Israel I moved to Amsterdam and co-founded with 5 other performance artists the group – Mono Collective that performs free and anchored Dance pieces.
In the last years I have been performing and giving workshops on the techniques of Improvisation in Dance and Contact.
I have been teaching contact and dance for over 15 years all around the world, on internationally acknowledged festivals and dance trainings.
All of the above are just words that are saying basically: Dance is my passion and I love to share it with everyone.
