Rising Falls – Contact workshop in Amsterdam with Irene Sposetti (Italy) (7.12)

This workshop will include Contact Technique, Experiential Anatomy, Partnering Improvisation and Instant Composition.

In this workshop we will focus on exploring basic subtle principles of movement in order to deeply understand one’s weight and how it organizes within one’s body structure and mobile alignment. How it distributes and relates to the shift of the inclination of the body axis, shift of levels and spatial motion.

Learning how monitoring and balancing one’s own structure can be the Main Key for effortless and agile relating in contact, discarding therefore the equation in which contact means always baring of weight or crashing. Falling or rising, getting-offering support, leaning, tracking and following, flying and landing having as main tool one’s own ability to organize a fluid self-alignment at all times, managing wisely and efficiently the distribution of weight in motion and collaborating in it.

We will look at how empowering individual awareness and independence in partnering can inform one’s own choices and therefore nourish the relation.
How it enables the access to our own imagination, our ability to play and create. Hence how we can enjoy creative dialectics in our improvisations, being at ease in the unknown, welcoming questions, variations of tone, tempos, composing and enabling abstraction or narratives to arise from our dances.

“I believe any form of art can be considered a fundamental tool for human expression, a tool to investigate, relate and bridge, to explore one self, reality and going beyond it”.

To my Partner Center & Beyond – 24.11 (Groningen)

In this day workshop in Groningen we will be exploring and playing into our partner center and venture from there into the periphery and beyond into lifting pathways.

We will be moving in and out of our mutual center of gravity in contact, and bring our own center of mass over our partner’s center of mass.

Once we find our own center, we can bring out attention to our partner center, once we find our partner center we can connect them and create a mutual, shared, moving center of gravity,

Once this is sensitivity is achieved, we can use this mutual shared moving center to lift one partner up and beyond and to bring them back to the ground safely.

I am happy to come back to Groningen and to share my love for this art dance form and you are all welcome to join us for this day workshop of research and exploration.

Giving weight & Consent in Contact Improvisation – Zaal 100 10.8.2019 (Amsterdam)

In Contact Improvisation we share the weight and dance with the physical attributes of gravity that effect two bodies in contact. We invite the other person to give their weight onto us, and we offer our own weight and body into them.

The word consent has become a wide used concept, and it was brought as well into the Contact Improvisation world.

Consent means an active permission or an agreement for an invitation to receive or do something. It is the answer yes to an offer made by another person. In this workshop we will explore that field – of Non verbal and verbal consent in the realm of Contact Improvisation and sharing the weight.

Contact Improvisation is, in it’s origin, the dance form that revolves and explores the physicality of moving objects/dancers in shared contact. In the past years it has grown and diversified to encompass many other realms. The psychological aspects of two people dancing together in shared contact is now being addressed as well, and not covered under the carpet when it arises.

It might not be the main focus of CI, yet when it comes forward it is not being pushed away.

This workshop is a part and a small taster of a bigger weekend workshop that will take place in a few months regarding Contact Improvisation, Dance, Consent & Empowerment.
You are all welcome to join in for this workshop.
