In contact improvisation, as in any other partner dance or partner movement form, communication goes through the body and perception is vital. Perceiving your own body and dance, perceiving your partner’s body and structure, and perceiving where you are together. Taking risks from a place of connection. Surrendering into the moving unknown, because you ‘know’ where you and your partner are. Perception is related to body awareness as well as to your senses.
In this workshop we want to spice up our ability to perceive ourselves, our moving body and each other, in order to gain more trust, flow and groundedness in our dances. We will work with games, principles and approaches inspired by movement methods like Ido Portal Movement Culture and Fighting Monkey, and let them meet Contact Improvisation to integrate them directly into partnerwork in motion. Some moments we will zoom into the layer of the bones and muscles. Other moments connective tissue will guide our journey. We will play, explore, dance, challenge each other, go blind and discover.

Mileen is a dancer, performer, teacher and organizer. She feels especially at home in the field of instant performance and is passionate about contact improvisation (CI). Some years after her master in social work & pedagogics, she graduated in 2011 at TIP, school of dance, improvisation and performance in Freiburg (DE). She finished a training in education in the arts and since more than 12 years deepens her practice by teaching and performing (inter)nationally. She is one of the initiators of the contact improvisation scene in Ghent (since 2013), and since 2012 she coordinates the dance program for WISPER, a leading organization for art education for adults in Belgium.
As an artist Mileen loves to collaborate with artists of other media, looking for common or new artistic languages. Improvised performance and CI are a passion and a home for her, a source of inspiration for movement research and a platform to reflect on the greatest ‘encounter’ and improvisation that we call ‘life’.
Her own trajectory as a mover, dancer and performer led her along various masters in instant composition, CI and along inspiring movement and somatic methods including Thai yoga massage, Breathwork, Gaga, Ido Portal Method and Playfight.
As a facilitator, Mileen finds it important to create a context in which people can grow in (body) awareness. She loves a profound and at the same time playful approach where people can ‘plug in’ to their movement potential and layered physical, poetic and artistic expression.
